Battery size is often the most expensive checkbox on an EV. But for city driving, 40–60 kWh can be more than enough—if your routes and charging routine make sense.
Start with a simple reality check: how many kilometers do you drive on weekdays, and how often can you charge at home or work. If charging is regular, you don’t need to chase the “two weeks on one charge” fantasy.
Remember winter: consumption rises due to cabin heating and battery conditioning. If summer range fits comfortably, plan extra buffer for cold months.
Tip: during a test drive, combine highway + city and watch the real consumption on the trip computer. It’s usually more honest than brochure numbers.

If price and practicality matter more than maximum range, a smaller battery can mean a lighter car, better efficiency, and lower ownership costs.
